Mosfet Regulator Rectifier Modification
A friend recently asked what I did regarding my regulator rectifier. You’ll notice my Bonneville does not have the telltale finned rectangular gray box located up front on the frame or even on the fork. I made that modification and upgrade prior to the start of this website, so I thought I would share what I did now.
When my stock OEM regulator-rectifier went bad, I did some research and found a website called Roadster Cycle, run by a guy named Jack Fleming. He sells a complete kit to replace a stock OEM regulator-rectifier with a Shindengen FH020AA Mosfet rectifier. The kit costs $121.95 plus shipping and includes everything you need for the conversion.
What’s the difference? The Mosfet rectifier uses modern electronics technology and runs cooler than OEM rectifiers based on 1960’s technology. It means you can locate the rectifier anywhere on your bike – even hidden!
When I performed my British Customs Airbox Removal Kit modification, I located my Shindengen Mosfet inside the battery box next to the battery! It is completely hidden from external view (see above).
Hey Randy, I’m looking at getting that same unit – my original went bad too – but the whole wiring and adaptors, etc is really too confusing. Did you use a wiring diagram or where did you get your info? There’s a lot on Triumph rat, but it is way over my electronics knowledge.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Marcus,
I bought my kit from Jack Fleming at Roadster Cycle (www.roadstercycle.com). I purchased the The Super Mosfet Kit FH020AA for $139.95 + $6.50 shipping. The instructions were clear enough for me, and now Jack has added videos as well. All you need are typical wiring tools: crimp tool, wire stripper/cutter, tape, etc. I relocated my mosfet rectifier inside the battery box after purchasing a smaller Lithium style battery. Everything fits in there nice and snug.

i have a lithium battery and have also bought the fh020aa, was wondering would the new fh020aa im about to hook up to my bike fry the lithium battery
aside from splicing the three wires from the stator, are there other wires I have to deal with?
Theros,
I do not believe so… those are the three that connect to the Mosfet Rectifier.

Hi Randy,
How has the setup with RR and battery in same box worked out so far? Have you had any heat issues? Have you monitored the heat somehow?
I’m having hard time finding a spot to hang the RR and am now considering putting it in the battery box with an 8-cell Antigravity Li-battery.
I’ve had no problems at all with this location and setup since 2013. Still going strong!
Jack says- NOT to install this under the seat, next to the battery , etc etc. There are fins———-telling you that it needs air——–needs cooling. Ask jack if you think this is Jive
Peter, well regardless of what Jack says, mine is installed next to the battery as shown and has been since 2013 with absolutely mo problems.
